How to charge an IC card (Suica/ICOCA)

Step by step

   Go to a ticket machine

   Use a station ticket machine. The screen has a "Charge (入金)" and an "English" button.

   Tap "Charge"

   Press "Charge" and place the IC card in the slot or on the reader.

   Insert money

   Insert cash (coins or 1,000-yen notes) and pick an amount. Charging is cash-only on most machines.

4. 04

   Take the card

   The balance goes up and the card returns. You can also charge at a convenience store register — hand over cash and say so.
