Step by step

1. 01

   Walk in

   Many are open 24h. Staff say "irasshaimase" (welcome) — no reply needed.

2. 02

   Pick your items

   Bento, onigiri, drinks, snacks. Prices are usually shown tax-included.

3. 03

   Go to the register

   Manned counter or self-checkout. Self-checkout usually has a language button on the first screen.

4. 04

   Pay

   IC, card, cash, and QR work at most stores. You will be asked "heat it up?" and "need a bag?" — just yes/no. Bags cost a few yen.

   Decline a bag

   袋はいりません

   Fukuro wa irimasen

   No bag, thank you.

5. 05

   Hot snacks (if any)

   Fried chicken or nikuman by the register are ordered out loud — pointing is fine.
