Checking out of a hotel in Japan

Step by step

1. 01

   Check the time

   Check-out is usually 10:00–11:00. Late check-out may cost extra or need to be arranged in advance.

2. 02

   Settle the bill

   Pay for any paid fridge drinks or extras. If you prepaid, it is just a quick confirmation.

   Start check-out

   Chekku-auto onegai shimasu

   I'd like to check out.

3. 03

   Return the key

   Hand the key card back at the front. Some hotels have an auto-checkout machine and no key to return.

4. 04

   Leave bags after checkout

   Keep bags till evening

   夕方まで荷物を預かってもらえますか？

   Yugata made nimotsu o azukatte moraemasu ka?

   Can you keep my bags until this evening?
